J. Carey Pate, MD
Dr. Pate is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in retina disease and surgery. Dr. Pate has a special interest in diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment surgery.
Dr. Pate is a third generation physician and grew up watching his father and grandfather practice family medicine in rural Texas. He was valedictorian of his high school class and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Medicine. He attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he trained at the Texas Medical Center, the largest of its kind in the world. He then traveled to the bluegrass state and completed an internship in transitional surgery and a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky. He stayed in Lexington where he completed a dual 2-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Kentucky and Retina Associates of Kentucky.
Dr. Pate loves to travel, snow ski, and spend time with family and friends. He is married to Rena Pate, O.D. and they have 2 young boys, Tommy and Charlie.
