Wasim Samara, MD
Dr. Samara is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in Retina diseases and surgery. He obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. He completed his internship at Saint Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He then completed ophthalmology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Samara went on to complete a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama and Retina Specialists of Alabama in Birmingham.
Dr. Samara has extensive research experience, prior to his residency training, he completed two research fellowships in ocular oncology and vitreoretinal diseases at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His work was published in RETINA, Ophthalmology, and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. His work was also presented at many local and national meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Samara is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
In his free time, Dr. Samara enjoys hiking, traveling, and playing tennis. He is fluent in Arabic and English.
